The weekends can so often go by busily and unnoticed, but they are great opportunity to plan some special days out and quality time for you to enjoy together as a family.
A lot of family days out end up being very pricey by the time you’ve paid for entry to an attraction and somewhere to eat, however they do not need to be. These are some of our favorite family days out on a budget, wherever you live in the world:
A picnic at your nearest beauty spot is a lovely opportunity to spend time as a family, and do not cost much money at all. Pick a place where there’s space for your kids to run and play while you and your partner relax in the sun!
Kids will find the chance to eat lunch outdoors a treat in itself. How about making some sandwiches and a cake with some fruit and maybe potato chips to go along with it? Yum yum!
- Art galleries/museums
If you live in a city the commute out to the suburbs may be a bit too far for you to go for a picnic. How about making the most of what your city has to offer for free? Most cities have a number of art galleries or museums with free exhibitions on or activities for kids, or if your child is a little bookworm you could go to the public library and pick them out some new books to read.
Find a restaurant where kids eat for free, or visit a coupon site for 2 –for 1 vouchers, so you can enjoy a cheap lunch out together.
- Bike ride
If your child loves to be active they are sure to enjoy a family bike ride . As well as being fun this is a great opportunity to get your kids exercising and tire them out – making for a peaceful evening for you and your partner!
As long as you all have a bike already and live near the countryside this can be a free trip, otherwise you could consider borrowing bikes off friends or family, or going for a countryside walk instead.
- Play date
Visiting a friend who has kids is a brilliant opportunity for you to all have fun. This won’t cost anything if you don’t go out anywhere, but your child will get a chance to bond with other children and play in a different house and garden, whilst you get to catch up with a friend.
- Stay in!
While the weekend is a lovely time to get out and about, you can make an evening or rainy day stuck at home extra fun when you spend time together as a family.
How about setting aside time to have a cinema-at-home evening? You could download a film that everybody is sure to enjoy, or even pick two if there’s arguments. How about trying a free trial on Netflix or Redbox Instant if you want to save money buying a film?
Pick up some popcorn, sweets and make tasty treat like coke floats. Kids love these, and they can be simply and cheaply made by adding a small scoop of ice cream to a glass of coke. Although simple, this will be a treat for your children if it’s not the kind of thing you get the time to do often, and will cost less than $5.
